Global Warming

We are all aware that global warming is becoming a very important factor in our lives and we are also very aware that energy prices are increasing at an alarming rate. Domestic properties account for approximately one third of all the UK's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions therefore it is seen as a major contributor to global warming.

Climate Change and Energy
Climate change is the greatest environmental challenge facing the world today. Rising global temperatures will bring changes in weather patterns, rising sea levels and increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. The effects will be felt here in the UK and internationally there may be severe problems for people in regions that are particularly vulnerable to change.

Energy Conservation Advice
There are lots of simple things you can do to save energy right now, which will reduce your carbon dioxide emissions and help prevent climate change. These range from turning your lights off when you leave a room to insulating your cavity walls.

By bringing energy saving into every aspect of your life - work, travel, and day to day living - you can make a real difference.

Not only will you be doing your bit to help prevent climate change you will also see a difference in your pocket. The average household could save up to £300 a year on energy bills by being more energy efficient.

Three steps to Energy Conservation
  1. Avoid wasting energy
  2. Use energy more efficiently
  3. Use energy from clean renewable sources

The first steps - avoiding waste - cost nothing, and immediately start saving you money. Some of them may involve some changes to your lifestyle, such as walking or taking the bus rather than driving off in your car. Others are simple matters of habit - like switching off lights when they are not in use, and checking that the room thermostat on your heating system is set correctly. This is sometimes known simply as energy conservation. Conservation does not mean having to go without.
